Young Pioneers is a hands-on programme designed to empower kids and young adults with essential life skills and foster self-sufficiency from a young age. Through engaging activities and practical lessons, children will learn valuable techniques for sustainability, resourcefulness, and independence. Our curriculum blends fun with learning, inspiring kids to become confident and capable individuals. Young Pioneers is set at our beautiful community gardens next to Spa Park - the perfect classroom!

🌿 What We're Getting Up To in Term 2 🌿

Each week is packed with hands-on fun, adventure, and skill-building in the great outdoors! Here's a sneak peek at the kinds of things we'll be exploring:

  • Firelighting and campfire cooking (with marshmallows)

  • Bushcraft, setting up camp, nature walks

  • Plant medicine (Rongoā Māori)

  • Foraging and wild food tasting

  • Building shelters and outdoor structures

  • DIY projects using real tools

  • Gardening and composting/hydroponics

  • Good old fashioned work!

  • Collecting eggs and learning about chickens

  • Nature-based games and team challenges

  • Earth art and nature crafts

  • Flying Fox & Catapult!

  • Rainy day hut missions

  • Learning knots and lashings

  • Garden-to-plate cooking

  • Storytelling and reflection around the fire

  • Building confidence, resilience and friendships

We adapt each session to the season, the weather, and the energy of the group — no two days are ever the same!

Costs & Dates

Weekly Class Times

Wednesdays

  • 9:30am – 11:30am – Ages 7–12

  • 3:30pm – 4:30pm – Ages 7–12 (After-school)

 

Costs

  • Morning Class (1.5 hrs):
    $150 per term (10-week term) or $15 per class

  • After-school Class (1 hr):
    $120 per term (10-week term) or $12 per class

Pay-as-you-go or book for the full term. Limited spots available!

Full Day / Half Day Camps

We offer customised lessons for schools or groups throughout the day, with a minimum of 10 students.
Topics can include gardening, bush skills, sustainability, and more.
Interested in an overnight bush experience? Let us know!

  • Full Day Camp
    9:00am – 3:00pm | $45 per child

  • Half Day Camp
    9:00am – 12:00pm or 12:00pm – 3:00pm | $25 per child
