Jerky Basics: Crafting Delicious Dried Meat
Join us for a one-hour workshop that delves into the art of making jerky, a time-honored method of preserving meat. This session will cover the fundamentals of creating flavourful, homemade jerky using simple techniques.
The workshop will begin with an overview of the history and benefits of jerky, including its long shelf life and role as a portable, nutritious snack. Participants will then learn about the key steps in the jerky-making process: selecting the right cuts of meat, marinating for flavor, and drying the meat to perfection.
Through a live demonstration, students will see how to properly slice meat, apply marinades, and use a dehydrator or alternative drying methods. We will also cover important topics such as food safety, proper storage, and different flavouring options to customize your jerky.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a basic understanding of how to make their own jerky at home, with tips on experimenting with flavours and techniques. This hands-on session is perfect for anyone interested in traditional food preservation and enjoying healthy, homemade snacks.
