About
Timebanking is a simple, community-driven way for people to exchange skills, knowledge, goods, and support — without using money. Instead of dollars, we trade using Taupō Hours, our own locally printed notes. One Hour represents one hour of time, no matter what the skill is. Everyone’s time is valued equally.
Members can offer skills such as gardening, computer help, tutoring, building, cooking, or rides — and can request support when they need it. People can also trade products, from fresh produce and preserves to handmade goods and practical items. If it strengthens community, it can be traded.
Taupō Hours are now used off-line only. Each person holds and manages their own notes, and simply exchanges them person-to-person when a trade happens. This keeps things simple, tangible, and rooted in trust and responsibility.
At its heart, Timebanking is about more than trading — it’s about connection. It helps neighbours meet neighbours, share skills, build resilience, and strengthen the fabric of our community. Every trade is an act of reciprocity and care, creating a local economy where everyone has something to give and everyone has something to gain.
